Shadow Warrior by Tanya Lloyd Kyi

What’s cooler than girl ninjas? An actual historical female ninja and her cohort of female spies….

Shadow Warrior by Tanya Lloyd Kyi and illustrated by Celia Krampien (Annick Press) covers the historical (and possibly mythical) basis for stories about a young woman ninja in Japan in the 16th century. The legends told about her suggest she was a real person but, like other mythological characters, there is much we can never know. Nevertheless, the story covers Japan’s history of warlords, samurais, ninjas, and women, with both a story and illustrations that captivate kids and adults alike. Certainly, my 7 year old son loved this book. I did too!
