Primary student, Leroy has a huge problem on the school bus, but doesn’t know how to solve it.

Young Leroy and older sister, Ruby, board the yellow school bus five days a week and each day a high school student named DJ teases Leroy for one thing or another. At first it’s verbal teasing, “Everybody knows that Leroy picks his nose. Picker-Licker Leroy, he’s the booger boy!” From there DJ progresses into threats then steals his lunch. Next, DJ steals the treats Leroy brought on the bus to share with his first grade class. The bus driver tries to help, but he has to keep his eyes on the road. Ruby sits with her fifth grade friends away from Leroy. He feels helpless and so ashamed that he decides he will tell no one, though Ruby advises him to at least tell their parents as they walk from the bus stop. Leroy forbids her from saying anything to them or anyone. However, after DJ destroys Leroy’s Superkid class prize, he decides he can’t keep quiet anymore. He tells his parents and after talking to his teacher, she devises a “Secret Weapon” to help Leroy.

This empowering story offers young readers not only strong characters overcoming an all too common school problem, but also gives them useful suggestions on how they could tame a bully themselves, without getting in trouble.
