There are two sides to every story:

Reading this story from front to back as we normally do might make some readers cringe: there are two seals on a large rock with plenty of room, but they simply won’t allow any other animals to come on board; not gulls or crabs or even other seals. When the sea grows stormy with huge waves, many of their fellow creatures try to get to the safety of the rock, but the seals stubbornly still refuse to help.

However, if readers then follow the instructions on the final page and read it again, only this time from back to front, the story then becomes heartwarming and kind and shows the seals in a much better light.

Room on our Rock will be a great way to teach young readers about compassion and sharing and will lead into some interesting discussions. Highly recommended for any home, school or public library.
