The Big Race by David Barrow

The Big Race

By David Barrow

All the animals knew that the Big Race was going to be very tough, but  the big animals didn’t care: they were first in line to register. However, Cheetah, Buffalo, and Crocodile were shocked to see little Aardvark registering, too. They laughed and told him he’d never even finish, but Aardvark was not worried. He told them he thought the race would be great fun.

On the day of the race, the animals lined up at the Start Line and when Warthog yelled, “Go!” off they went. At first Cheetah led the way with everyone including little Aardvark on his heels. During the bicycle, swimming, and tightrope walking portions, little Aardvark managed to keep up until in the very last event, Aardvark met up with a bit of bad luck. Will her determination keep her going?

Barrow’s simple story and colorful illustrations will help young readers to understand how important it is to persevere. This will be a great addition to any home, school or library’s collection.
