The Book Without a Story

By Carolina Rabei

Most people do not know that when a library closes for the day, the books all come to life.

On a high shelf in a busy library sits one lonely book, Dusty the Book of Dinosaurs. During the day when the patrons come to choose books to borrow, the library bustles with people of all ages perusing through many kinds of books to find the right ones to check out. When the library closes and the last librarian locks the building for the night, little does she know that in the darkness, the books come out and talk about the people who had borrowed them and life outside of the library! Some books were read on a bus, or at a lunch break, but not Dusty. Alone on top of a high shelf, no one could see him. How will Dusty ever get read and into circulation? However, Paul the Pop-Up Book of Paris has an idea that would get Dusty into the hands of a boy who only goes to the library to look at pictures of dinosaurs to draw.

Rabei’s sensitive text tells the story of how a lonely book helps a reluctant reader to begin to read by himself. Her detailed illustrations pair well with the text. Highly recommended for inclusion in any home, school or public library.
