Love From Alfie McPoonst, The Best Dog Ever

Love From Alfie McPoonst, the Best Dog Ever

Written by Dawn McNiff

Illustrated by Patricia Metola

Alfie McPoonst is the best dog ever until the sad day when he died. His owner and best friend, Izzy is heartbroken. Her parents try to console her, but Izzy misses Alfie so much that she can’t help but cry, but then a letter arrives from Alfie. He writes to let her know he lives in Dog Heaven now and that he is okay. Dog Heaven has so much to do: Alfie gets to scare big wolves and chase postmen and nobody yells for him to stop! He gets all his favorite meals and snacks, even cow pies, and he never gets yelled at. Alfie then explains the way he can see her: through a sky peephole. He even tells her where to find a special thing he left behind to help her remember him.

McNiff’s tender prose tackles a huge problem: how to help children who have lost a beloved pet. Her prose is simple and the story ends on a tender note.

Metola’s detailed and playful illustrations capture the love shared between a child and her/his pet.

This book is a tender way to soften the loss of a beloved pet.

Highly recommended for inclusion in any home, school or public library
