On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 landed on the moon after years of hard work by many scientists and technicians.

Moon reigned over the night sky and for years she wished for someone to visit her. She called to plodding dinosaurs that they would weigh less and have more freedom up on her surface, but they stayed set in their ways. The Earth slowly changed over time and Moon watched a procession of creatures come and go, but all of them remained on the Earth. Moon morphed through her many phases, from new moon, crescent, waxing gibbous, full and back again, but still no one came to visit. She did not know that some scientists dreamed of sending humans to her surface. Not only did they dream, but they also studied science and Math until at last, they were ready to experiment. The book’s backmatter contains a plethora of facts about the moon, the lunar mission, the astronauts, and much more.

Hill’s delightful text presents facts with a poetic touch. Paganelli’s charming illustrations will delight young readers. Highly recommended for any home, school, or public library’s collection.
