Go, Shapes, Go! By Denise Fleming

A little mouse takes readers on a romp through the pages of a book that is a celebration of many shapes in a variety of sizes. It begins by wondering what can shapes do?

Ovals bounce up and down while their “cousins” the circle can roll from one place to the next. Mouse decides that an arc reminds him/her of a slithering snake. Rectangles flip if they are small, the large ones march at a steady one, two, three pace.

Each shape is also portrayed in a variety of sizes throughout the book: tiny, small, and large to help young readers to understand that shapes can made in many sizes. However, as mouse travels through the book toward the end, the shapes collide, fall, but quickly reassemble into a surprise.

Caldecott Honor medalist, Fleming’s illustrations are created by using a paper-making technique called pulp painting to add texture to her colorful images. Preschoolers and up will be fascinated by the lively illustrations, the journey of the mouse, and the lively, but simple text.

Recommended for ages preschool to Grade 2, this book would make a great addition for any home, school or public library.
