In My Anaana’s Amautik

by Nadia Sammurtok; illustrated by Lenny Lishchenko

Outside of the womb, an amautik (“the pouch in the back of a woman’s parka where a baby can be carried,” according to the brief glossary) is the safest, most nurturing environment an Inuit baby can be in. The illustrations here are subtly intricate, with lots of gentle color, and the prose is cozy with repetition. A perfect bedtime book.

In My Anaana’s Amautik is published by Inhabit Media and comes in at 24 pages. (The paper is nice and strong.)
