Earth-Shattering Events: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Cyclones, Tsunamis and other Natural Disasters

by Robin Jacobs, illustrated by Sophie Williams

This book is a terrific resource. While it’s aimed at readers in grades 3 and 4, it’s equally meaningful for early, new, and experienced readers, and also old ones like me. At 96 pages, it’s thorough in examining natural phenomenon that can be disastrous (some aided by human behavior), and even offers strategies for how to protect oneself. Readers and pre-readers will find the text basic enough to comprehend, and it is complemented by striking illustrations. Earth-Shattering Events: Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Cyclones, Tsunamis and other Natural Disasters can be read cover-to-cover, in short chunks if necessary, and also used as a reference book.

It will be published in hardcover by Cicada Books in April.
