Protagonist, Jack, likes school except for one subject: Spelling. He is good at Art and soccer, and not bad at Math, but Spelling makes his tummy ache. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t remember the right way to write the words. After the recess bell rings and Spelling class ends, Jack hurries to go outside, but Ms. Walton, his teacher, has something to talk to him about. Bille B. Brown, his best friend, looks offers to wait for him and she does.

In Ms. Walton’s room Jack fears the worst. His eyes tear up as he admits how hard Spelling and Reading are for him so she offers Jack a possible solution: to get extra help from Miss Campbell who enjoys any student who needs a little extra help to learn to read. After the first session, Jack’s fears turn to relief.
